Longevity isn’t about just living a long time, it’s about having a high quality of life.

Little injuries start to accumulate as you get older. Just a couple of months ago I strained my hip-flexor and adductor while coaching and it’s been negatively impacting my quality of life. 

Lifting is awesome, and I love it, but I have found that due to time constraints I neglect mobility and flexibility.

A good friend of mine @coachhatcher swears by hot yoga and I decided to commit to doing it 2 days a week.

My body is starting to feel great! I feel more mobile and after 75 minutes of yoga today, I was spent but felt loose and pain free. 

My fellow meatheads, I encourage you to try this one day a week and while you’ll look ridiculous doing it, it’s worth it and yoga people don’t judge, they’re all very nice!

The place I go to has a 6am class so I am back in the office rocking and rolling by 8am.

I can see myself doing this at least 1-2x a week forever.

This is my second shirt - the other one is soaked!

I loved it and will be going twice a week.

Today was an unconventional lift day. Transitioned from mostly machines to free weights to get some more functionality in my training.

I know my hypertrophy friends will poo-poo on this but my body feels better and I can move better when I do this and it’s already showing its merit after only a week.

Here is todays lift:

Unbalanced single arm dumbbell bench press

Unilateral dumbbell bench press with isometric hold at the top
3x5
Dumbbell bench press
3x5
Barbell flat bench press for speed (50% 3rm) - I used 225
10x3
Bell-up kneeling kettlebell shoulder press
3x5
Dumbbell curls
3x6-8

Upon waking and before my off-day routine. 213lbs and focusing on movement and athleticism in addition to hypertrophy.

Here is my off-day morning routine:
-20 minutes outdoor walk
-Neck Training and stretching (4x8 with weighted neck harness)
-20 minute sauna 
-3 minute cold plunge 

Feeling so darn good!

Highlight of the trip to Colorado for Preston’s PNL wrestling tournament!

I was watching some of the greatest wrestlers on earth practice at the Olympic Training Center when this large man comes up to me and extends his hand to shake it.

The legendary Christian Lance knew who I was and told me he watched me on YouTube when he started training! Aside from making me feel very old, it was a huge compliment!

He then took the time to give Preston advice and chop it up.

I’ll never stop doing fitness videos in the tigerfitness YouTube channel.

It could also be the 5 hours of training per day year round and nutritional knowledge, but whatever!

Thomas’s team has shocked the state by qualifying for the state championships and I am super proud of all of them.

Why am I smiling? Because LIFE IS GREAT! Every day, I wake up blessed by God with the opportunity to live, to grow, and to chase my dreams. I’m excited about this incredible country we live in—the land of opportunity where hard work and faith lead to amazing things.

This weekend, I’m headed to Fort Wayne for Preston’s national wrestling tournament—watching him push himself on the mat fills me with pride. While I’m gone, Thomas’s high school team will be wrestling for a regional title, and I couldn’t be prouder of the young man and leader he’s become.

Family, faith, and the pursuit of excellence—that’s what it’s all about. Let’s make today amazing!
