FINALLY going backpacking this weekend 👏 Washington winters can feel so long & bring different challenges to the table making it hard to get trips in (our last trip I had to call off due to horrible winter weather) so I am SO excited to get out there this weekend! No new video on Sunday, but we will see you next week 👋

About 13 years ago, my dad took part in the removal of the Elwha & Glines Canyon dams to restore the surrounding ecosystem - this is LARGEST dam removal project in US history. The Elwha River quickly reclaimed its land, along with some of what man had built during its time of confinement, including a portion of the Olympic Hot Springs road that gave access to a large portion of Olympic National Park. Today, you can only access this corner of the park by foot or bicycle.

Charlie, Mom, & I spent the day exploring what is left of this place - a flourishing river, disintegrating roads, lush trees, an abandoned ranger station, native plants, locked up bathrooms, vast canyon walls, & a re-growing ecosystem 🌱
