🤔 Do you know who is the person standing next to Ferenc Fricsay in the first photo?

Ferenc #Fricsay died at only 48 years of age 😥 – suffering a death from illness that was as tragic as it was untimely. Even though Fricsay’s career as a recording #artist barely lasted 12 years, he is considered a legend, the epitome of the enlightened master #conductor who was good at everything he touched.

As critics then and now have pointed out, Fricsay made every single record count, especially in the last years of his stupendous career, when he knew that he had little time 💔. One can only wonder what this genius would have achieved had he lived longer.

Did you know #Tchaikovsky Concerto was originally dedicated to Henry Vieuxtemps?

One of the finest musicians of his time, Henry #Vieuxtemps (1820–1881) was praised for his “flawless and expressive technique, a marked individuality and great artistry always at the service of the expression of feelings.” #Berlioz and #Schumann were great admirers of his work. However, his music as composer is frequently absent in today's concert halls.

We recently celebrated Trevor Pinnock and The English Concert's founding 50 years ago with this complete edition of their recordings for Archiv Produktion. From the initial wish to "experiment and open the mind to new ideas" the ensemble recorded one extraordinary recording after another, many of which have remained in the canon as reference recordings to this day.
